World’s largest solar power tower plant located at the Solúcar Platform, near Seville (Spain) and developed by Abengoa Solar has officially begun operation after a period of 3 days of tests.
Called PS20, the solar power tower plant surpassed the predicted power output during the tests which further validated the high potential of power tower technology.
PS20 is the world’s second solar power tower plant designed to produce 20MW of green energy, enough to power 10,000 urban homes. Located on the Solucar platform in Seville, Spain, the solar tower will avoid the emission of about 12,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere.
The spectacular installation of solar panels with a huge tower in the middle produce electricity from the sun’s rays collected by 624 mobile giant mirrors. The mirrors focus the sun’s rays on the top of a 100 meters tower which are then used to produce steam that put into operation a turbine to generate electricity.

Wow! that is massive and a great step forward for Spain. For those of us who live in the UK, check out Solar Gadget Store for some cool portable devices.
