Volkswagen Released The New Hydrogen-Based Passat

Volkswagen created in collaboration with Shanghai Auto, a vehicle powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The model is a Passat Lingyu and promotes the use of alternative energy in the automotive industry. The model production will start in 2010.
Fuel cells which is equipped Passat Lingyu was developed in partnership between Shanghai Auto and Volkswagen, Tongji University and the Shen-Li High Tech, from Shanghai.
The ecological front engine consists of an 120 HP electric engine, that is powered by lithium-ion batteries, which are charged by a fuel cell. With this ecological motorization, Passat Lingyu can reach up to 150 km / h and can traverse 305 km with one tank of hydrogen.
Passat Lingyu is not the only vehicle powered by hydrogen from the Los Angeles Auto Show. Kia will introduce Borrego, an SUV powered by hydrogen. Borrego’s engine develops 154 horsepower and offers an autonomy of 685 kilometers, obtained with the help of three tanks of hydrogen from the board.
