The “legacy” excavation left by the coal mines which generated so much pollution represents an important development for clean energy sector from Netherlands.
The concept is simple to explain: abandoned coal mines are considered unnecessary, which were demolished. Later, on respective land, the Dutch have built new houses, connected to a geothermal plant which pumping water of 35 degrees Celsius at depths of 800 meters.
Hot water is used for heating of 350 households, which is channeled back into old wells. Water will operate in this way of two or three times in a year. The only is that, to be connected to central, the homes must be close to it.
